A.J. sued the Friends Quaker Church in Newberg, Oregon, claiming youth superintendent Bruce Bishop sexually abused him when A.J. was between the ages of 11 and 16.
A.J. claimed Bishop repeatedly violated him, then had him pray to become a virgin again.
Bishop was a youth superintendent for the church from 1987 to 2004. After that, he held the role of communications coordinator until the church fired him in 2010, when the church said it found out about “an improper relationship between Bruce and a minor in 1991,” according to minutes from the organization that year.
Kafoury & McDougal sued the Quaker Church for $4 million plus punitive damages and settled for an undisclosed amount.
